Disputing premium SMS: how it works

Last updated: July 2026

If amounts are charged to you via premium SMS (short codes) that you never knowingly subscribed to, react without delay. State the objection in writing, demand the immediate end of the subscription and a refund of unjustified amounts. Note the short code, dates and charged amounts. Often the subscription can additionally be stopped by a “STOP” SMS.

Address the objection to your mobile provider and – if known – to the provider of the value-added service. Keep the letter factual and provable. To prove the objection and the date, sending with proof is sensible.

Recommended shipping method

So you can prove the objection and the date, we recommend registered mail (from CHF 8.99). That gives you proof of posting – useful if amounts continue to be charged. This is a recommendation.
