Cancelling a telecom contract: notice and steps
Last updated: July 2026Telecom contracts (mobile, internet, TV) often have a minimum term of 12 to 24 months. Within that term ordinary cancellation is usually only possible for the end of the term; afterwards shorter periods often apply. The exact period is in your terms. Also check whether bundled services or device instalments affect the cancellation.
In the letter, state your customer number, the affected phone number or connection address, your name and the desired cancellation date. For the start of the period, receipt by the provider usually counts. When switching providers with number porting, additionally follow the new provider's porting process.
Recommended shipping method
So you can prove the cancellation, we recommend registered mail (from CHF 8.99) or A-Post Plus with tracking. Especially for running contracts, proof helps avoid disputes over the cancellation date. This is a recommendation.
