Security & privacy
Security and privacy when sending letters online
Terminations, contracts, medical letters: sending mail online means trusting us with sensitive content. That is why SwissDocs24 stores letter content strictly encrypted (AES-256, a dedicated key per letter), transfers all data over TLS and keeps it in Switzerland. Your letter is only decrypted for printing and dispatch – from CHF 2.49 per letter including printing, envelope and postage.
How your letter is protected
1. Encrypted in transit
Upload, preview and payment run exclusively over TLS-encrypted connections.
2. Encrypted at rest
Letter content and PDF are stored AES-256-encrypted in the database and storage – with a dedicated random key per letter.
3. Securely printed and sent
Your letter is only decrypted for printing and handed directly to our Swiss print partner; Swiss Post delivers it.

Honesty is part of security
- Letter content is never stored in plaintext in our database or storage.
- For printing and dispatch your letter is decrypted – unavoidable for physical mail. Our print partner only receives the print-ready PDF.
- Our emails never contain the letter content.
- Paid letters stay unchanged: the stored PDF is exactly what was printed.
Frequently asked questions
Who can read my letter?
Letter content and PDFs are stored encrypted and only decrypted for printing and dispatch. The print partner receives the print-ready PDF – there is no way around that for physical mail. No content analysis or evaluation takes place.
How are my letters stored?
With AES-256-GCM and a dedicated random key per letter (envelope encryption). The database and storage only hold encrypted data.
Where is my data stored?
In Switzerland, in a data centre in Zurich. Technical error monitoring runs on servers in the EU.
Is my payment data safe?
Payment runs entirely via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, TWINT, Apple Pay, Google Pay). Card data never reaches our servers, and the payment data at Stripe contains neither letter content nor recipient addresses.
What happens to abandoned orders?
Letters that are never paid are deleted automatically after 30 days; temporary preview files already after 3 days.
How long does my letter stay available?
Sent letters remain available as PDFs in your order overview – stored encrypted and unchanged, exactly as printed.
Does SwissDocs24 check the content of my documents?
No. We only check technical properties such as format and page count, not the content.
