Deadlines for cancelling KPT
The basic-insurance deadlines are set by law and are the same for every insurer. Supplementary cover follows your policy.
| What | Deadline |
|---|---|
| Basic insurance (KVG/LAMal) | received by 30 November, effective 1 January |
| What counts | receipt by KPT, not the postmark |
| Recommended sending | by mid-November, registered mail or A-Post Plus |
| Premium notice from the insurer | by 31 October at the latest |
| Supplementary insurance (VVG) | own deadline per policy, often 3 months to year-end |
Leaving KPT in four steps
- 1
Settle the new insurer
Compare next year's premiums and settle acceptance with the new basic insurer. In basic insurance, acceptance is mandatory.
- 2
Fill in the cancellation
Open the template, add your name, address and insured number, and enter the KPT address as recipient.
- 3
Check the PDF
Use the preview to confirm sender, recipient and cancellation date are correct.
- 4
Send in time
Send so the cancellation arrives by 30 November – ideally by mid-November as registered mail.
Why registered mail
Because the deadline is a receipt deadline, you need proof of when your letter arrived at KPT. Registered mail (from CHF 8.99) gives you an item number, proof of posting and proof of delivery; A-Post Plus (from CHF 5.49) is the cheaper tracked option. A plain send is possible from CHF 2.49.

The basic-insurance deadlines follow the Federal Office of Public Health (priminfo.admin.ch); supplementary-insurance deadlines and addresses can differ – if in doubt, check with your insurer.
